Family Time

Family Time Is Quality Time To Keep Harmonization - In today's chaotic world, spending time with family isn't always easy. Coordinating schedules can become very difficult, especially when the family size is large. Life demands that we work, go to school, develop friendships, develop hobbies, and more. All of these things are time-consuming and important—but so is spending time with family.

Why is family time so important? Because we all need love and support, and a good, stable family can provide that on a regular basis. For children, spending time with their families helps shape them into good, responsible adults, improves their mental health , and develops strong core values.

Spending time with family has many positive effects. For example, my family (including the grandkids) and I get together every Tuesday night for dinner and games. My oldest son and I take turns cooking. This gives us all a chance to try some new recipes. After dinner we play games. They inevitably inspire competition and laughter. As the family night progressed, the grandkids invited their friends over, which required more chairs, but also expanded our entertainment circle.

What Does Family Time Means?

Family time means visits and other forms of contact between children and parents, lost siblings and grandparents.

What Is The Importance Of The Family Time?

Family time has many benefits, including building trust, creating stronger emotional bonds between family members, improving communication skills, better academic performance and fewer behavioral problems, and creating relationships built on fun, laughter, and togetherness. A chance to remember.

Let's get started, shall we?

Besides the obvious fun and games, there are other reasons why spending time with family is important. In this article, I'll explain to you why spending time with your family is a win-win.  Then I'll show some methods.

Why is spending time with family important?
Here are six reasons why spending time with family is important.

1. Provide the ability to bind

Spend time with your family, talking about your day, your ups and downs, encouraging communication. As a parent, you have the opportunity to listen to your children , listen to them, and understand what's going on in their world. It also gives you the opportunity to use life situations as teaching moments.

Before our Tuesday dinner/game night, my family sees it often but not often, especially the grandkids. Our family home evening changed all that. Now it's guaranteed the grandkids and some of their friends will be there. Not only do I understand what's going on in their lives, but they get to understand us better too. It creates memories that will be cherished forever and sets an example for traditional parties when they finally have a family of their own.

"Spending time to participate in daily family leisure activities is associated with stronger emotional bonds within the family." [1]

2. Teach the value of family

When you spend time with your family, your child will know they are valued—and spending time together is a priority. I know that in today's world, both parents are busy because they are usually both working. What better way to show your kids that they are loved than by making time each week to be with them?

According to Dr. Marilyn Price-Mitchell, "Words such as honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage have been at the heart of religion, philosophy, and family beliefs for centuries. Use them and others to express and affirm your family values ...teach children the behaviors that emerge from these principles. Use quotation marks at dinner to spark meaningful conversation and encourage children to talk about these values.”[2]

3. Improve mental health

Spending this quality time together gives your child a safe platform to express themselves, ask questions about things that are bothering them, or talk about their day and what they have learned. I know my 9 year old granddaughter can't wait to talk about her day. She usually goes on and on and needs to stop giving others a chance to talk about what she's doing.

"Research shows that the quality of family relationships is more important than their size or composition. Whoever forms a family can create strong, positive relationships that promote well-being and support mental health in children and adolescents."[3]

The opportunity for children to turn to a parent they trust for advice, as well as a sounding board and help with problems, is invaluable. In addition, the ability to speak their mind and be heard—feeling that what they have to say matters—builds appreciation. All of these can have a very positive impact on their well-being.

4. Help children feel loved

How do you think children feel when they know their parents want to spend time with them - talking, sharing experiences, playing games, listening to them? It makes them feel important, and a child who feels important is happier and grows better.

Putting aside chores or work and spending time with your kids shows what they matter -- that they matter. What a great gift for your child!

"When a child has your undivided attention, it shows that they are loved and important to you. This can be further encouraged through joyful shared activities, as it shows that you want to spend time with your child outside of your daily demands." [4]

5. Create a safe environment

If you spend time with your child regularly, you will also create an atmosphere of mutual trust. The more trusting they are, the more likely they are to share with you what's going on in their world. As they get older, you'll wonder. Negative effects can come up at any time, but if you are there for your child at all times, they are more likely to come to you for advice.

Spending time together creates a sense of intimacy and support. When children feel safe and comfortable, they are more likely to open up. It's a way of getting to know your child and what they're thinking. Are you all right? Do they need your guidance? If so, how?

6. Reduce stress

this is very important. We all experience stress at some point in our lives. Spending time with family can help relieve this stress. This is an opportunity to discuss things, get feedback, and possibly find solutions to problems that are causing stress.

According to Brandy Drzymkowski, "During the holidays, your five closest people may shift onto family and friends. You may even see distant loved ones. Great news! This can actually help lower your stress levels." Study showed that "face-to-face interaction . . . counteracts the body's 'fight-or-flight' defense response."

Now that you know some of the benefits, what are some ideas for making family time a reality?

How to Make Family Time Possible
Here are four things you can do to spend time with your family and spend more time with them.

1. Family dinners

As I said above, this is a wonderful way to spend time together. As you eat dinner, you'll have a chance to discuss what's going on in your life—the ups and downs, and everything in between. It acts like a buffer against life's challenges.

Besides that, there are many other benefits to eating dinner together. Children who regularly eat meals with their families have a lower risk of substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and depression, research shows. [6]

"Our belief in the 'magic' of family meals stems from research into the physical, mental and emotional benefits of regular family meals." Recipes for Warm, Positive Family Meals —The environment can lead to these scientifically proven benefits. 7]

According to Parenting NI, children and adolescents who spend more time with their parents are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. According to research conducted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse through Arizona State University, teens who rarely share dinner with their families are twice as likely to use tobacco, nearly twice as likely to use alcohol, and nearly twice as likely to smoke cigarettes . Sex is one and a half times as much as marijuana use. "[8th]

As you can see, there are many benefits to spending time together on a regular basis. You can't go wrong with this family activity.

2. Regular movie nights

This is another interesting event, although I must warn from personal experience that it's not easy to pick a movie that everyone wants to see. So give yourself enough time so you don't spend two hours watching a movie only to skip it because the evening is almost over. If possible, try to pick a movie before the day.

Then open the discussion. Ask questions about movies. What do you think of ABC? Should they do that? Would you do something different? There are plenty of questions you can ask to spark conversation and keep the night going.

3. Game nights

This is another opportunity to have fun. It's even more fun if you're competitive. There are many games out there - Balderdash, Pictionary, Apples to Apples, Charades, and more - that can wreak havoc and have fun. All I can say is don't take yourself too seriously on game night. It doesn't matter if you lose the game. The fun is in being together, laughing, discussing and having a good time.

Furthermore, "There are many reasons to play board games for kids besides the obvious; it's fun to play! Age-appropriate games help kids think strategically, solve problems creatively, develop pattern recognition, and develop basic Math skills. They also help children develop social skills such as following rules, taking turns, and winning and losing gracefully.

In addition, family game evenings provide children with opportunities to connect with siblings, parents and family members, and peers. It encourages building Traditions and establishing fun routines."[ 9]

So find a game for your family and start having fun!

4. Share hobbies

If you and one of your kids enjoy doing the same thing, do it more often. For example, my older son and his teenage son went on long bike rides together on the weekends. In addition to exercising, you can also have fun and enjoy the beautiful scenery. They also incorporated cooking into their daily lives. They plan meals, shop and prepare activities that bring them closer together.

Sharing a hobby is a great way to bring family members together. It connects people in amazing ways. According to Alison Ratner Mayer of LICSW, "One of the easiest and most important ways to build a child's self-esteem is to spend time with them and do things that not only they enjoy, but you also enjoy. When parents and children share a There's a special magic that happens between them when they're doing a mutual loving activity. It sends the message to the child that their parents are happy, really, honestly, really happy.”[10]

Final Thoughts

Spending time with family is an investment. It's an investment in the happiness, well-being and security of this system. It can also break through the daily grind and constant worldly demands while building a strong family unit.

While finding the time isn't always easy, finding the time to be close and giving and receiving love and support is key. There is no greater gift than the gift of time. We all seem to miss that these days. So giving this gift consistently makes everyone feel loved and valued.

Families who take time out regularly are happy. They know they are part of a tribe, which is crucial in today's chaotic world. Knowing that there is someone you can count on—someone who will have your back when you need it—is invaluable.

If you haven't already, go ahead and plan something with your family now.
