Can Dandruff Cause Hair Loss

Hair Fall

Can Dandruff Cause Hair Loss Continuosly? - Hair loss (alopecia) can affect just your scalp or your entire body, it can be temporary or permanent. It can be caused by hereditary, hormonal or medical causes, or part of aging. Anyone can have hair loss on their head, but it's more common in men.

Dandruff can sometimes lead to hair loss, but treatment immediately can prevent further damage to your scalp and hair.

Before the main discussion, it's good for you to understand what hair loss is and what causes it

Symptoms

Hair loss can take various forms, depending on the cause. It can occur suddenly or gradually, and only affect your scalp or your entire body.

Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:

  • Hairline recedes over time. This is the most common type of hair loss, it affects people as they age the most. Men's hair typically begins to thin at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have the hair on their head expanded. Increasingly, women of a certain age are experiencing a hair loss pattern that is frontal fibrosing alopecia, this pattern is characterized by a receding hairline.
  • Bald patches that are circular or have a pattern. Some individuals have bald spots on their scalps, beards or eyebrows that are circular or patchy. Your skin may become irritated or painful before the hair is lost.
  • Hair that is suddenly loosened. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to become disorganized. Several hairs may escape during combing or washing your hair or even after a light tug. This type of hair loss typically results in overall hair loss but is short-lived.
  • Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can cause the loss of hair on your entire body. The hair typically regrows.
  • Scaling that covers the entire scalp. This is a symptom of ringworm. It may result in hair loss, flaking, swelling and, at times, oozing.

Causes

People typically shed 50-100 hairs every day. This is typically not apparent because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss is the result of the loss of hair, which is the replacement of hair that has been lost.

Hair loss is typically caused by one or more of the following causes:

  • Family history (heredity). The most common cause of hair loss is a genetic condition that occurs with age. This condition is called androgenic alopecia, male-pattern baldness and female-pattern baldness.
  • It's typically progressive and predictable, the hairline and bald spots in men and hair loss at the top of the head in women are typical.
  • These are the primary causes of the condition. Other causes include hormonal changes and medical conditions. Several conditions can lead to permanent or temporary hair loss, including hormonal changes associated with pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and thyroid issues. Conditions that cause alopecia include: alopecia areata (al-o-PEE-she-uh ar-e-A-tuh), which is an immune system-related condition that causes patchy hair loss, infections on the scalp such as ringworm, and a disorder called trichotillomania (trik-o-til-o-MAY-nee-uh).
  • These include medications and supplements. Hair loss can occur as a side effect of certain medications, including those intended to treat cancer, arthritis, depression, heart disease, gout and high blood pressure.
  • Radiation therapy to the head. The hair may not return to its original state.
  • A very difficult situation. Many individuals have hair loss that is general several months after a physical or emotional trauma. This type of hair loss is temporary.
  • Hair styles and treatments. Excessive hairstyles that pull your hair tight, such as pigtails or cornrows, can lead to hair loss called traction alopecia. Other hot-oil treatments and permanent hair colors can cause hair to lose its hair. If scarring occurs, hair loss could be permanent.

Factors

Several factors can increase your likelihood of hair loss, including:

Prevention

Baldness is primarily genetic (male-pattern baldness and female-pattern baldness). This type of hair loss is not preventable.

These suggestions may help you avoid hair loss that is preventable:
  • Be gentle with your hair. Use a detangler and avoid pulling when brushing or combing, especially when your hair is wet. A comb with a wide tooth might help prevent hair removal. Avoid harsh treatments such as hot rollers, curling irons, hot-oil treatments and permanent hair colors. Avoid styles that cause tension on hair, these include rubber bands, barrettes and braids.
  • Ask your physician about any medications or supplements that you take that may lead to hair loss.
  • Protect your hair from the sun's ultraviolet rays and other sources of light.
  • Quit smoking. Some studies have suggested a connection between smoking and baldness in men.
  • If you're receiving chemotherapy, ask your doctor about a cooling cap. This cap can reduce your likelihood of losing hair during chemotherapy.

Now, we are back in a topic about this title

For the majority of people, dandruff is the flaky white flakes that accumulate on clothing and other surfaces. A 2015 article in the Journal of Clinical and Investigative Dermatology titled "Seborrheic Dermatitis and Dandruff: A Comprehensive Review" estimates that 50 million Americans have dandruff.

Dandruff is a problem with the scalp, not the hair. Doctors do not have a complete understanding of the cause, but they do know that stress, weather changes, an overgrowth of yeast on the skin, and an imbalanced immune system may all contribute to the redness, itching, and flaking.

Zain Hussain, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New Jersey, stated that dandruff that is not treated may also lead to hair loss.

Does hair fall due to dandruff grow back?

Is Hair Loss Caused By Dandruff Temporary Or Permanent? Hair loss caused by dandruff is not permanent. Once you address the dandruff, the hair follicles are restored and hair regrows.

What kind of dandruff makes your hair fall out?

Severe dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis are more inflammatory, this causes intense itching and scratching, which can lead to hair follicle damage and subsequent hair loss.

What are the side effects of dundraff to hair?

In most instances, dandruff does not directly lead to hair loss. However, the irritation it causes can lead to scratching. This can damage your hair follicles, which can lead to some hair loss, but not complete baldness.

Most people ask whether dandruff can cause hair loss or not. For more details, please read the following discussion carefully

Does Dandruff Cause Hair Loss?

Dermatologists believe Seborrheic dermatitis is the primary cause of dandruff. This condition is an inflammatory skin disorder that is typically caused by a type of yeast called Malassezia.

It can become inflamed when subjected to stress, environmental alterations, or medical issues, Hussain explains. The inflammation may cause hair follicles to become damaged over time, this would lead to hair falling out before it's ready, this is called telogen.

Prompt treatment of dandruff may have a positive effect. If the treatment fails, it may be because another condition is responsible for the hair loss.

Other Possible Causes of Hair Loss
Dandruff is just one potential cause of hair loss, but it's not the sole cause. Despite having dandruff, it's often the case that there is another cause that is more relevant that explains the loss of hair.

According to a 2017 article in American Family Physician titled "Hair Loss: Common Causes and Treatment," some of the most common causes of hair loss include:

  • Androgenetic alopecia: Also known as male or female-pattern baldness, this is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women.
  • Alopecia areata: This autoimmune disease causes the body to attack hair follicles, but it can be cured.
  • Tinea capitis: This is often confused with dandruff, tinea capitis is a fungal disease that can cause the hair to fall out.
  • Telogen effluvium: This type of hair loss results in many follicles going into telogen, the resting stage of hair growth during which hair does not grow. Medical conditions, stress, and medication may be the cause of this type of hair loss.
  • Anagen effluvium: The most common type of hair loss among people undergoing chemotherapy, this type of hair loss is caused by medical procedures that prevent hair growth.
  • Cicatricial alopecia: Also known as scarring alopecia, this permanent form of hair loss causes inflammation on the scalp. This causes hair to become scarred, which prevents further growth.
